Retrieve Gmail

If anyone can show me how to retrieve Gmail into Access, I could stop paying for a contact management software (CRM). I used the Access Email Seminar to add outbound email to my databases and that was FANTASIC! Richard is a BEAST at training which always makes things easier. Anything new on any VBA, APIs, etc to retrieve GMail?

Google has this: https://developers.google.com/identity/protocols/oauth2
Daniel Pineault has done work with the REST API too. https://www.devhut.net/how-to-send-e-mails-via-gmail-using-the-google-api/

Yeah, I know it can be done. I've never done it myself because I use Outlook to collect the email, which is a whole lot easier. I just have my Gmail address read by Outlook, and then you can have Access pick it up that way. One of these days I am going to sit down and put together a tutorial on reading Gmail directly, but it just hasn't been an issue since Outlook does it super easy.

I wonder how much longer Outlook will be able to do that now that Microsoft has decided to change Outlook?

Yeah, a lot of developers are worried about that, because they rely on Outlook for not only reading but sending an email. Microsoft has pretty much indicated that Classic Outlook's days are numbered, but I think it'll be around for at least a few more years.

Sending email through Gmail is relatively simple. You can send through any SMTP server. It's retrieving the mail that's tricky, and that's the thing that Classic Outlook makes very easy to do.

But I'll be putting together a developer lesson or a seminar on how to do this eventually, or maybe adding it to the email seminar or something like that, because I'm going to need it for myself too if Microsoft ever decides to nix Classic Outlook.

Thanks Richard. I'll order when it's ready. Meanwhile...back to my lessons.
