I know thus far, we've not gotten into VBA much (if at all) however; is it recommended to use Macros for simple Command Button functions such as opening/closing forms or... to code these in VBA as well?

Once you really get into VBA you will find it much faster than going through the Button wizard.
Since I usually have a Close Button on must Forms, I have started putting a Public Sub called CloseForm in a Module so all I have to do for my Close Buttons is call that sub. Saves me a lot of typing.
