I aapplied compact and repair on one table where there were many other too, but it didn't repair the same table but created another database file with mdb format. Could you please advise how to do on the same table.

Access creates a temporary mdb file during the Compact and Repair. It sounds like your process crashed in the middle and the temporary file (mdb) was not deleted.
