On Activate
Monica Jones

I did this to some of mine a few months ago because I kept accidentally typing over my first record, instead of in the search box. In the On Activate event I have DoCmd.GoToControl "SearchBox". Is there any downside to doing it this way, or just different?

TIA,
Monica

Monica

I would probably just put SearchBox.SetFocus.

Both are perfectly valid. Each of them has slightly different pros and cons. For example, if you have to get into a subform and move around in there, you can't use SetFocus. It's really weird. I've covered this in a video or two, I think. But yeah, that's fine. You can use the OnActivate event to do that.

Sometimes what I also recommend is you can create an edit button if that happens a lot. So that normally when you go to a record in the OnCurrent event just have it turn allow edits off or lock the fields and then you have to manually click on that edit button to allow edits. That will also prevent accidentalchanging of a record.
