Access Consulting
Benjamin Cassell

I would like to get a few quotes for some consulting.  Specifically, I have a few questions about indexing, autonumbers, migrating to SQL server and security.
I have been working with Access for over 30 years.  I just want to bounce a few ideas off someone.

With 30 years of torture, um I mean experience, in Access, we should be bouncing ideas off of you.

Hi Benjamin, Yes, like Donald said, check out the Access Developer Network page. There are several consultants listed there, including my premier sponsor, Shama Consulting.

But if you have questions, you can feel free to post them right here in the visitor forum. That's what it's for. You don't have to be a member. You don't have to be a paid student. If you've got questions about auto numbers and indexing and all that stuff, that's what these forums are for.

Not only will you get one consultant's advice, you might get a dozen people's advice. It might all be bad advice, but it's advice. Lol, just kidding.

But seriously, questions from the forums and such are what some of my best videos have come from, so post away.

Hi Benjamin,

Thanks for reaching out through Richard.

After 30 years in Access you have likely pushed it about as far as it
goes, and the questions you are weighing now (indexing strategy, how
autonumbers behave once you are off Jet, a clean path to SQL Server, and
tightening security) are exactly the ones that decide whether a migration
goes smoothly or turns into months of rework. It sounds like you want a
straight answer on each before you commit to anything.

To do that properly without guessing, we offer a fixed-fee Advisory
Discovery: a written memo answering your specific questions on indexing,
autonumbers, the SQL Server migration path, and security, plus a
recommendation you can act on. Fixed fee in the $2,000 to $3,000 range,
delivered in 10 working days, and credited in full toward any work you
take forward within 90 days.

I keep it to a range until I have seen how your database is actually built,
because indexing and autonumber issues in particular tend to stay hidden
until someone looks under the hood. A 20-minute call would let me scope
it precisely.
