Inserting Picture

I'm working on Access Beginner 6, lesson 4, inserting pictures.  My OS is Windows 10, January 2022 update, and I'm using Office 2019.  I setup my picture field as OLE.  When I drag my .bmp file into the field, it just shows an icon.  I've also tried a .jpg, with same results.  Not sure where to go from here.  Thanks, Don

I looked further into the "Help" in Access, and found that it's looking for the field to be and "Attachment" field type rather than an OLE type.  I had to remove the field in my table, and re-enter it as an attachment type.  Then to add the image, I had to right-mouse click on the field in my EmployeeF form and click on Manage Attachments > Add > then select my image in the file-menu.  Then I had to open it back in the context menu, and click OK.  It works, but seems like a rather convoluted way of doing it.  If I am missing something, please let me know.  Thanks, Don

Did you watch the Images techhelp Alex sent you? OLE objects are Evil Evil Access Stuff

Storing anything in the database is not good, I can't remember if Rick teaches about them briefly in the beginner courses but don't spend too much time troubleshooting a problem with them, you won't want to use them later.

Don -
Just to clarify a bit.  Even though you are learning that in Beginner 6 don't get "hung up on it".  Alex and Adam pointed you to newer videos and articles that have been produced since that lesson was recorded.
The video above is / was the older version of the recording.

The OLE embedded object should still be usable but it isn't advisable.  Those of us working with DBs have move on to the better methods linked above.

Also - Make sure that you are watching the latest versions of the Access Beginner 1 Lessons and newly released Beginner 2

I got it.  Took me a while.   Thanks for the replies!

Yeah, this is definitely one of those lessons that needs to be revised.
