Rounding to Significant Places

I work in analytical chemistry, where we must round the measurement uncertainty to 2 significant places, the measured value must be then rounded to the same decimal places as the measurement uncertainty. Trailing zeros shall not be chopped off. How can I do this with in Access?

You can specify the precision of a single field, or if it's variable you can use a Format code like:

Format(X,"0.0000")

This will display X to 4 decimal points.

Is it possible to do this in a continuous form so that each record is rounded to 2 significant figures? That would mean that we can have different number of decimal places for each record depending on the size of the numbers.

Is this the sort of thing you are meaning?

X: IIf(Len([myNumber])=2,Format([myNumber],"0.00"),Format([myNumber],"0.000"))
