Updates

  • You may have to turn 2-factor authentication OFF for your Google account if you're having problems sending mail. I'd recommend creating a 2nd account just for sending mail from Access. This way your primary account is still safe and secure with 2FA.
  • You may need to make an App Password for your Google account. Go into your Google Account settings (not Gmail, your Google Account) and go to Security - Signing in to Google - App passwords. There you can setup a special username and password just for your Access app to send email thru your Gmail account. Not sure if I covered this in the seminar or not because it wasn't required at the time.

I have been following the email seminar and have been successful up till lesson 10.  I have both an Outlook email and a Gmail email address.  I entered the bare minimum to send a SMTP email and when using both port 465 or 587 I received errors.  I can upload jpg of the errors, but basically its with 465 cannot connect to server with the sending address and with port 587 it gives me the it needs to STARTTLS.  I'm wondering if this is caused due to the recent change to 2 step verification?  Not sure how to upload jpgs to this forum.  Thanks

I have watched and enjoyed your Email Seminar through lesson 10.  I use Gmail and have an issue.  When I entered your VBA code for the test email and used port 465 I received an error "The transport failed to connect to the server".  Then I tried the port 587 and got the error "The server rejected the senders address.  The server response was 530 5.7.0 must issue a STARTTLS command first."  I checked my address and password.  Both correct.  Any suggestions?  Thanks Read More...

Do you have 2-factor authentication turned off? Did you make an App Password for your Google account? Go into your Google Account settings and go to Security - Signing in to Google - App passwords. There you can setup a special username and password just for your Access app to send email thru your Gmail account. Not sure if I covered this in the seminar or not because it wasn't required at the time.

Using the following code:

Dim oApp As Outlook.Application
    Dim oNS As Outlook.NameSpace
    Dim oInbox As Outlook.MAPIFolder
Dim oCompleted As Outlook.MAPIFolder Read More...

Is that code directly from the course, or did you modify it? It's been several years since I recorded that class, so I don't remember. Do you have any mail items actually in your inbox?

The code is from the course.  I did get several records into the IncomingT table, but my Outlook inbox (via Gmail) has over 9,000 emails.  It seems to limit the number of records I can retrieve and now will not add any new records to the table.  I get the type mismatch error where the oMailItem is now null.
