Frequently Asked Questions About Computers & Tech

For those who are curious. I used to publish a newsletter by fax (yes, by fax) back in the 90s and early 00s. It was called ComputerFAQs, a double-play on words (FAQs being Frequently Asked Questions, and it was sent out by FAX. Get it?) I recently found a bunch of these issues online. I'm going to see if I can locate more.

For me, I saved these because it's a walk down memory lane. I really love putting these together. It was my first foray into answering peoples' questions (the precursor to TechHelp, if you will). They're worth a read if you'd like a good chuckle, too. What? I can get a 66 Mhz 486 system for only $1,200? LOL

Low Quality PDFs

For these issues, I wasn't able to find the original PDF files. In fact, if memory serves, I don't think I ever made PDFs. I have the original WPD files. These are WordPerfect documents. Word can import WPD and "kinda" convert it to DOCX and then to PDF, but it doesn't do a great job. Fonts, images, and layout isn't preserved that great. The text is all still there though.

Online Only & Video Edition

With issue #99, I decided to make ComputerFAQs and "online-only" publication and send it out via email. This is the only one I could find. Still looking for more. This page references a #105, so I just have to find them. I have so many old files to go through still from my old CD archive.

AmicroNews

In February 1996, I started a second publication called AmicroNews (get it? Amicron News? Yeah, I know). This was to be more about company-related news, advertising user group meetings (which were actually quite popular for a while) and things like that. ComputerFAQs would get people in the door, then once we knew they were interested, AmicroNews was more of a hard sell. Most of these are WordPerfect conversions, so only the last two (23, 24) are good quality PDFs the way they originally looked. Issue 21, sadly, was corrupted.

Other Stuff

Yeah, there were a few other publications I put together, too. Some were great. Some were, slightly less than great. :)
